Statue Unveiled in Nikko to Honor Missing French Tourist Tiphaine Véron

A bronze statue was unveiled on Wednesday in Nikko, Japan, to commemorate French school assistant Tiphaine Véron, who vanished during a 2018 visit to the tourist town. Véron, 36, was last seen on 29 July 2018; her passport was later recovered in her hotel room.

French Ambassador Béatrice Le Fraper du Hellen attended the ceremony, expressing France’s continued support for the family. The work, created by sculptor Mana Yokoi, is intended as a place of remembrance and a symbol of perseverance. The family also met with Nikko police, urging a full criminal investigation into the disappearance.
