Stavros Arnaoutakis promotes insularity as a Greek advantage

At the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair, the Regional Governor of Crete, Stavros Arnaoutakis, emphasized that insularity should be viewed as a comparative advantage for Greece rather than a weakness. Speaking during a central event for the Interreg 2021-2027 programs organized by the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, Arnaoutakis argued that regional development must be supported by the implementation of the insularity clause to transform geographic isolation into opportunity.

Arnaoutakis highlighted the Interreg Greece-Cyprus program as a vital laboratory for island policies that fosters closer cooperation. He also addressed the importance of social cohesion, stating that development programs must translate into tangible social benefits and equal opportunities for all citizens, including people with disabilities, rather than just budgetary figures.
