Stavros Kalogiannis demands action on Egnatia Odos and tolling issues
Former Deputy Minister of Development and Infrastructure Stavros Kalogiannis has called on the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport to address significant delays and technical issues affecting Greek motorways.
Kalogiannis highlighted delays in the certification of tunnels on the Egnatia Odos, which have resulted in lane closures and significant traffic congestion. He attributed these delays to TAIPED and criticized official suggestions for drivers to use alternative road networks as an insufficient solution.
Additionally, he raised concerns regarding the toll stations at Aktio, noting that the inability to use transponders from other motorways causes major delays at the Aktio–Preveza subsea tunnel, particularly during summer months. He demanded that the ministry provide a clear timeline and specific measures to resolve these issues.
Finally, Kalogiannis questioned the status of electronic tolls with proportional charging. He noted that while the implementation of such a system was originally targeted for 2018 under previous administrations, the transition to a fully interoperable electronic system has not been completed.
