STC Metro begins sleeper replacement on Line 5
The Sistema de Transporte Colectivo (STC) Metro has begun maintenance work on Line 5 in Mexico City. Specialists are replacing 180 obsolete wooden sleepers with new synthetic pieces in the area between the Aragón and Oceanía stations.
This specific section serves as a connection to Line B and functions as a maneuver zone. The link is critical for transporting Line B trains to workshops for maintenance and for moving empty trains to high-demand stations. It also facilitates provisional services between Oceanía and stations such as Politécnico or Pantitlán.
To avoid disrupting passenger service, the work is being conducted during the early morning hours. In addition to replacing the sleepers, crews are performing ballast compaction and verifying the geometric measurements of the rails.
