Steam adds free RPGs including “The Apprentice” and “Mystic Depths”

Steam has made three new titles permanently free on its platform as of mid‑July 2026. The top‑down action‑RPG “The Apprentice”, developed by Quite a Coven, offers a Zelda‑like experience with puzzle‑focused magic runes and a retro 16‑bit aesthetic. The game launched on 15 July 2026 and requires no purchase or time‑limited trial.

In addition, solo developer François Duchesne has reduced the price of his RPG “Mystic Depths: The Corrupted King” from €9.80 to free, making the classic Final‑Fantasy‑style, turn‑based adventure permanently available on Steam. The title, released on 23 June 2026, promises around 30 hours of gameplay across mines, ruined cities and ancient dungeons.

Both releases join other free offerings such as the horror‑comedy “Dracula 2” and the Brazilian folklore‑inspired “Estrada Real – Caminho das Almas”, reflecting Steam’s recent push to provide cost‑free gaming options without micro‑transactions or expiry dates.
