Steam beta update introduces Big Art Mode and Linux improvements

Valve has released a new beta update for the Steam client, introducing several visual and functional enhancements. A primary focus of the update is the Big Picture Mode, which includes a new “Big Art Mode” designed for large screens and televisions. This feature provides a more visual home screen by showcasing game art and screenshots through a configurable slideshow. Additionally, users can now implement custom screensavers and access a personal calendar within the Recommended tab to track upcoming game releases and events.

The update also provides significant improvements for Linux users. These include bug fixes for Steam Input, particularly for systems with older Linux kernels, and enhanced stability for the Steam Overlay when using Proton or the Vulkan API. Further technical refinements include better support for Flatpak packages, improved controller hot-plugging recognition, and optimized integration for launching games via desktop shortcuts. Performance improvements were also noted, such as faster client startup times and reduced impact on game recording for certain Direct3D12 titles on Windows.
