Steam faces rising game access bans in Turkey

The number of games facing access bans on the Steam platform in Turkey has risen to 255, according to data from the EngelliWeb project conducted by the Freedom of Expression Association. These bans, issued by criminal judgeships, primarily target adult-oriented content. Approximately 98% of the affected titles are already classified as adult content within Steam’s own internal systems. While the legal decisions have been made, many of these games remain accessible as Steam has not yet implemented the technical restrictions for Turkish users.

If Steam fails to comply with new regulations effective November 1, 2026, the platform may face administrative and technical sanctions in Turkey, including significant fines issued through the Cyber Security Presidency, the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), and the Access Providers Association (ESB).

In separate market news for the period of September 15–22, 2026, EA Sports FC 27 topped the list of best-selling games on Steam globally, driven by pre-orders. Other top-selling titles included Wardogs and Diablo IV. The list also featured long-standing titles such as GTA 5 and Rust.
