Steam generates $15 billion in revenue through August 2026

Valve's Steam platform has generated approximately $15 billion in gross revenue through August 2026, marking a 15% increase compared to the same period last year. While new releases have performed strongly, they represent a relatively small portion of the total revenue.

Forza Horizon 6 is the highest-grossing new release on the platform, earning roughly $210.5 million. It is followed closely by Crimson Desert, which earned $203.3 million, and Resident Evil Requiem, which brought in $200.9 million. Notably, new intellectual properties like Crimson Desert and Meccha Chameleon are successfully competing with established franchises.

Despite the success of these new titles, the majority of Steam's revenue continues to be driven by older games and titles with ongoing services. Data indicates that the top six new releases account for only 6.6% of the total $15 billion revenue. Furthermore, an analysis of the top 100 to 1,000 games shows that 83% of those titles were released prior to 2026, highlighting the platform's reliance on a deep catalog of existing hits.
