Steam grants Battlefield 6 refund after 470 hours of playtime

Steam has granted a full refund for the Phantom Edition of Battlefield 6 to a player who had logged approximately 470 hours of playtime. This decision marks a rare departure from Valve’s standard refund policy, which typically requires games to be purchased within 14 days and played for less than two hours.

The player, identified by the Reddit username ExplorEverythingOnce, requested the refund after Electronic Arts (EA) removed several popular game modes from the title’s standard Quickplay matchmaking. The removed modes included King of the Hill, Squad Deathmatch, and Rush. The player noted that Rush was a primary reason for their extensive playtime and argued that the game had changed significantly since the initial purchase.

To support the claim, the user provided links to official Battlefield websites and developer updates showing that these modes were previously advertised as available features. Steam Support reportedly accepted the explanation, acknowledging that the removal of content constituted a substantial change to the product. EA has stated that consolidating playlists is intended to improve matchmaking speeds and reduce bot presence, though players have expressed frustration over the loss of variety and the inability to complete certain cosmetic challenges.
