Steam Machine hardware sees functional use and creative 3D-printed tributes

The Steam Machine, a gaming PC designed by Valve to bring the Steam library to living rooms, continues to see interest through both functional hardware use and creative fan tributes.

Technically, the device operates on Steam OS, an Arch Linux-based operating system featuring the KDE Plasma desktop environment. This allows users to switch to a desktop mode to run various Linux applications such as Firefox, VLC, Spotify, and GIMP via the Discover app store. Performance benchmarks using Geekbench 7 on the device's AMD Custom CPU 1772 show single-core scores comparable to the AMD Ryzen 7 8700G, while multi-core scores align with the AMD Ryzen 7 8840U.

On the creative side, a 3D modeling enthusiast has designed a 1:1 scale replica of the Steam Machine to serve as a functional tissue box. The 3D-printable files, which include humorous variations mimicking different storage capacities, allow fans to enjoy the device's aesthetic as a household item without the high cost of the original hardware.
