Steam generates $15 billion in gross revenue through August 2026

Steam has generated an estimated $15 billion in gross revenue during the first eight months of 2026, according to data from Alinea Analytics. This figure represents a 15% increase compared to the same period in 2025 and already surpasses the total revenue recorded for the entire year of 2023. Analysts suggest the platform is on track to exceed $20 billion in gross revenue by the end of the year.

Growth is being driven by both new releases and a massive catalog. Approximately 19,000 new games were released on the platform in the first eight months of 2026 alone. While established franchises remain highly profitable—accounting for 52.5% of revenue from the top 100 new releases—new intellectual properties (IPs) are also seeing significant success. Crimson Desert has emerged as a standout new IP, generating over $203 million in estimated revenue.

Other top-performing titles contributing to the platform's success include Forza Horizon 6, Resident Evil Requiem, Slay the Spire 2, Subnautica 2, and Meccha Chameleon. The report notes a growing trend toward mid-market games, which sit between massive blockbusters and small indie titles.
