Steam reaches milestone with over 700 new game releases in one week
The Steam digital gaming platform has reached a new milestone, with over 700 new game titles released within a single week. According to Thomas Bidaux, CEO of ICO Partners, this surge occurred a month earlier than previously anticipated.
While the high volume of releases highlights the massive growth of the PC market and independent developers, it also indicates a significant supply surplus. Data shows that the majority of these new titles struggle to gain visibility. Out of the 720 titles released last week, 530—approximately 74%—received fewer than 10 user reviews. Only 10 products managed to exceed 1,000 user reviews.
This trend of high-volume, low-engagement releases is part of a broader pattern. In the first half of 2026, approximately 12,000 games were released on the platform, a 19% year-on-year increase. Despite the influx of content, only about 3% of games released in 2025 achieved a peak concurrent user count of 100 or more, raising concerns among developers regarding market saturation and visibility.
