Steam Survey Shows 16GB VRAM GPUs Overtake 8GB Among Gamers

The July 2026 Steam hardware survey revealed that graphics cards with 16 GB of VRAM have become the most common configuration among Steam users, capturing 25.90% of the market, while 8 GB GPUs fell to 25.32%. This marks the first time the higher‑capacity VRAM option has led the segment, driven by modern games that require larger video memory buffers.

The survey also noted a slight shift in CPU preferences, with 8‑core processors holding a 27.85% share over 6‑core units at 27.52%. System RAM configurations remain dominated by 16 GB kits (40.97%), though their share dipped marginally, while 8 GB RAM is gaining traction amid price pressures. Manufacturers such as AMD are promoting high‑VRAM GPUs as essential for uncompromised performance, even as supply constraints could keep lower‑VRAM models more prevalent in the near term.
