Steaua Bucharest coach Oprița near exit, captain Drăghici signs with Timișoara
Steaua București’s 44‑year‑old head coach Daniel Oprița is in the final stage of negotiations with FC Hermannstadt, a club that was relegated to Liga 2 this summer. Oprița, whose contract with Steaua ends on 30 June after seven years in charge, said the offer from Hermannstadt is financially superior to his current deal and that he hopes to secure a move that could eventually lead to a Liga 1 appointment. He acknowledged that the club’s budget uncertainties limit contract extensions, and his focus remains on helping Steaua achieve promotion before any departure.
Meanwhile, 28‑year‑old midfielder Stephan Drăghici, who captained Steaua for the past five seasons, has left the club to join newly promoted Liga 2 side Știința Poli Timișoara. Drăghici, a former Romania U‑18/U‑19 international, cited the club’s project and fan support as reasons for his move, stating his aim is to help the team reach its objectives for the upcoming season. The transfer marks another notable shift in Steaua’s squad as both a long‑term coach and its captain move on.
These changes come as Steaua seeks to rebuild its roster and coaching staff ahead of the next campaign in Romania’s second division.
