Steccato di Cutro authorities investigate suspected poisoning of nine dogs

Authorities in Steccato di Cutro, Italy, are investigating the suspected poisoning of nine dogs. Local police discovered three carcasses along coastal roads and six others inside a ruin on private property.

Due to the state of decomposition and potential hygiene and sanitary risks, the Mayor of Cutro, Domenico Voce, has issued urgent orders. These measures include forced access to the private property to remove and dispose of the remains according to European regulations, as well as sanitizing the area to prevent the spread of disease via insects or rodents.

Health authorities are checking for microchips to identify the animals and their owners. The municipality has also issued a formal alert regarding the use of toxic baits, prohibiting residents and landowners from preparing or leaving any poisonous substances in the area.
