Steel Authority of India Limited reports record August production and sales

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) reported record production levels for August 2026. The state-owned company achieved its highest-ever August output for hot metal, crude steel, and saleable steel.

Crude steel production rose 8% year-on-year to 1.68 million tonnes, while hot metal production increased 9% to 1.78 million tonnes. Overall steel sales grew 13% year-on-year to 1.871 million tonnes, driven by demand in Tier-1 and Tier-2 retail markets. Additionally, the company reported a reduction in borrowings of ₹870 crore.

In the railway sector, SAIL's supplies to Indian Railways increased by 5% to 1.23 lakh tonnes, with long rail supplies reaching a monthly high of 1.12 lakh tonnes, an 11% increase over the previous year.
