Steelers training camp tempers flare as players clash on second day of pads
During the Pittsburgh Steelers' second day of training camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, tensions rose sharply. Defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day became upset after left tackle Troy Fautanu failed to clear the way twice, prompting Joseph-Day to confront Fautanu on the field. The exchange drew in teammates, including Keanu Benton and DK Metcalf, and briefly threatened to spark a larger fight.
Veteran defensive tackle Cameron Heyward later demonstrated his dominance by throwing guard Brock Hoffman to the ground with one hand. First‑round rookie Max Iheanachor also impressed, holding his own against T. J. Watt's bull rush and keeping rookie offensive tackle Nick Herbig in check. The incident highlighted the heightened intensity of the Steelers' preseason preparations.
Joseph-Day later reflected, "I was about to win the rush, and then (left tackle) Troy (Fautanu) didn’t get out the way…" indicating his frustration during the drill.
