Seibert, who previously served as a spokesperson for former Chancellor Angela Merkel, clarified the distinction between supporting Israel's existence and supporting all its state actions. He stated that while Germany supports Israel against existential threats from groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, or Iran, this support does not extend to illegal settlements in the Jordan Valley, which he noted are contrary to international law.

He emphasized that Germany's commitment is tied to the internationally recognized borders of the Jewish state and does not support ideologies of territorial supremacy or the ongoing occupation, which is entering its 60th year.
