Stefanaconi municipal elections set for November following administration dissolution

Municipal elections in Stefanaconi, located in the province of Vibo Valentia, have been scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2026. This extraordinary election follows the dissolution of the previous administration led by Mayor Salvatore Solano in July 2024.

The dissolution was decreed by the Ministry of the Interior following an anti-mafia investigation into potential criminal infiltration within the local government. The town has been under extraordinary management for approximately 28 months.

While legal appeals to the TAR and the Council of State were rejected, confirming the dissolution, former mayor Salvatore Solano was recently acquitted in a separate judicial proceeding related to the ‘Petrolmafie’ operation. The upcoming election will determine the new mayor and the renewal of the City Council.
