Stefano Antonio Donnarumma has stepped down from his role as chief executive officer and director‑general of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane. The resignation was formalised at an extraordinary board meeting, where President Tommaso Tanzilli thanked him for his work and professionalism.
The decision follows direct pressure from Transport Minister Matteo Salvini, who asked Donnarumma to step back amid ongoing criticism over train delays and service disruptions. The board announced it will commence procedures to ensure full continuity of governance and operations, reiterating the group's commitment to its industrial plan, operational efficiency and investment programmes for national mobility.
Potential succession discussions point to Gianpiero Strisciuglio, the current head of Trenitalia, as the likely successor to lead the railway group forward.
