Stefano Saiu Wins 40th Palio di Fonni in Sardinia

The 40th edition of the Palio di Fonni, Sardinia's historic Anglo‑Arab horse race, was held in August 2026 to mark the event's 40‑year anniversary. Twelve Anglo‑Arab horses competed on a 2,000‑metre course at the San Cristoforo racetrack, with a total prize fund of €32,000.

Stefano Saiu, riding the horse Plutonio da Clodia, won the race for the municipality of Anguillara Sabazia, earning a €18,000 first‑place prize. He was followed by Giuseppe Piccinnu on Dokovic for Orune in second place and Andrea Cianciotto on Eroe de Bonorva for the host town of Fonni in third. The event attracted thousands of spectators from across Sardinia and was broadcast live by Sardegna Live.

Organisers highlighted the race's role in preserving regional identity and tradition, noting the introduction of an official anthem to celebrate the milestone anniversary.
