Stefanos Manos, former Greek minister, dies at 86

Stefanos Manos, a prominent Greek politician and former minister, has passed away at the age of 86. He died on August 15 following a period of serious health issues.

Manos held several significant roles in the Greek government, including Minister of National Economy and Finance, as well as Minister of Environment. He was a key figure in the political landscape of the post-dictatorship era, having founded the Liberals party and co-founded the Action party.

His legacy is closely tied to major Greek infrastructure projects and urban developments, including the Athens Metro, the Spata airport, and the Attiki Odos motorway. He was also recognized for his influence on urban planning in Athens, such as the redevelopment of Plaka and the introduction of pedestrian zones and bus lanes.

A funeral service was held in Kifissia, attended by numerous political figures, including Speaker of the Parliament Nikitas Kaklamanis, Deputy Prime Minister Kosti Hadjidakis, and Ministers Akis Skertsos and Thodoris Livanios.
