Stefanos Tsitsipas ends professional partnership with father

Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas has announced a definitive professional separation from his father and coach, Apostolos Tsitsipas. Seeking greater serenity and mental balance, the player stated that a good team is “half the work” and emphasized the need for a calm environment to support his career.

The partnership, which helped propel Stefanos to a career-high ranking of number six in 2019, had become a source of increasing tension and conflict. Observers noted that the relationship contributed to a decline in performance and technical limitations, including the player's struggle with his one-handed backhand. Following public disputes, most notably during the Madrid tournament, Tsitsipas has moved to work with new coach Thomas Perren.

This professional shift follows a difficult period for the athlete, who has been working to recover his form after a significant drop in the world rankings from number six to number 39. Tsitsipas has also been managing chronic back pain that began after the 2023 Davis Cup, a condition he addressed through medical treatment in Munich.
