Stefanos Tsitsipas withdraws from Basel ATP 500 tournament

Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas has withdrawn from the ATP 500 tournament in Basel. The decision follows his recent semifinal appearance at the Almaty Open, where he lost to Nikoloz Basilashvili.

Concerns have been raised regarding a potential injury to his right shoulder, which appeared to cause discomfort toward the end of his match in Kazakhstan. While there is no official confirmation that the shoulder issue is the definitive reason for his withdrawal, his participation in the upcoming Paris Masters now depends on his physical condition.

Despite the withdrawal, Tsitsipas has seen a significant rise in the ATP Live Rankings. After dropping to number 88 in June, he has climbed to number 33, driven by a title win in Gstaad and strong performances at the US Open and Shanghai Masters. His primary goal remains returning to the Top 30 to secure a seeded position for the 2027 Australian Open.
