Steffi from ‘Hartz Rot Gold’ seeks weight loss surgery

Steffi, a 43-year-old participant in the RTLZWEI social documentary series ‘Hartz Rot Gold’, is seeking weight loss surgery to address severe health issues. Weighing approximately 160 kilograms, she suffers from cartilage damage in both knees and requires artificial knee joints, which can only be implanted once she loses at least 60 kilograms.

While medical examinations are ongoing to determine the specific surgical method—such as a gastric bypass or mini-gastric bypass—Steffi has expressed a clear preference against a sleeve gastrectomy due to fears of regaining weight. In addition to surgery, she is undergoing nutritional counseling to facilitate permanent lifestyle changes. Her long-term goal is to improve her health and eventually return to the workforce as a trained cook and nursing assistant.
