Steiermark Animal Welfare Prize honors five projects

The tenth edition of the Steiermark Animal Welfare Prize has recognized five distinct projects for their commitment to animal protection. The award, presented by the state of Steiermark in collaboration with the Kronen Zeitung, saw a record 62 submissions across five new categories: emergency organizations, individuals, school classes, companies, and associations.

Key winners include the Austrian Mountain Rescue Service (Österreichischer Bergrettungsdienst) for their work rescuing livestock in difficult alpine terrain. In the individual category, Silke Strasser was honored for her educational approach to animal welfare. The Grottenhof Agricultural School received recognition for a biodiversity project involving the construction of nesting boxes, while Guggi’s Naturbauernhof won the corporate award for creating habitats for wild bees and insects.
