Stein community garden project launches raised beds
The project group ‘Bunte Beete’ has launched a new community gardening initiative in Stein by planting three raised beds in front of the Casa Cura. The beds contain winter vegetables, culinary herbs, and flowers.
The project originated from a 2021 competition titled ‘Gemeinsam unser Sisslerfeld gestalten’, where resident Susi Schauli proposed a community garden idea. After initial implementation challenges in the Sisslerfeld region, the group transitioned to this raised bed model to gauge local interest and foster community exchange.
The beds were moved from Eiken to Stein with assistance from the Eiken municipal works department. Members of the public are permitted to harvest the vegetables free of charge once they are ready. Information signs have been placed on the beds to indicate plant types and harvest readiness.
