Steinmeier restricts military honors at new official residence

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will not host state guests with military honors at his new official residence at the Spreebogen until further notice. The decision follows security and logistical challenges.

According to the Presidential Office, military honors for the visit of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan could not be held at the Spreebogen due to the guest's security classification. Additionally, a construction site on Alt-Moabit street would have prevented the ceremonies.

In contrast, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan was welcomed with military honors at the Ministry of Defense. The presidency is currently testing various alternative locations to conduct such ceremonies in the coming months.
