Prosecutors have upgraded charges against two doctors to manslaughter with intent following the death of Greek pop star Giorgos Mazonakis. The singer died of cardiac arrest on September 9 during a plasma exchange procedure at a clinic in Kolonaki.

Investigations revealed that the clinic was registered as a pathology practice and was not authorized to perform plasma exchange. Digital evidence from the medical equipment indicates that the procedure began at 14:37, with the first machine alarm triggering at 15:22. Despite the equipment signaling alerts at 15:22, 15:23, and 15:45, emergency services (EKAV) were not contacted until 16:11, representing a 49-minute delay.

Police are also investigating reports that the singer may have been administered intravenous drugs to induce intoxication prior to the treatment. The suspects, a couple, are accused of attempting to hide evidence. The Greek Health Ministry has acknowledged a lack of a regulatory framework for anti-ageing clinics in the country.

Mazonakis's funeral in Nikaia was attended by thousands of mourners. The case has sparked significant public outcry regarding the legality and safety of unregulated medical procedures being marketed for longevity and anti-ageing purposes.
