Stella Creasy faces criticism over gender-segregated religious march

Labour MP Stella Creasy has faced criticism following her attendance at the Milad Al Nabi march in London, a religious celebration of the Prophet Muhammad. Observers noted that the event featured gender-segregated participation. While Creasy, a self-described feminist, defended the event and shared footage of women participating, she acknowledged that the march was indeed gender-segregated.

Conservative politician Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg has accused Creasy of hypocrisy, contrasting her support for the segregated religious march with her 2022 opposition to the Garrick Club. At that time, Creasy had criticized the private club for its men-only membership rules, labeling it an ‘old boys’ club’ that disadvantaged women. Rees-Mogg suggested her stance on the religious event may be motivated by political considerations regarding her constituency voters.
