Stella Lefty faces plagiarism accusations over new song

TikTok breakout singer Stella Lefty is facing mounting accusations of plagiarism as listeners identify similarities between her music and several established tracks. Most recently, her song ‘seven eleven’ has been compared to the 2000 Wheatus hit ‘Teenage Dirtbag’. Observers noted that Lefty had previously released a cover of ‘Teenage Dirtbag’, leading to speculation regarding the source of her melodic influences.

This follows a pattern of similar comparisons. Her breakout single ‘Boston’ was noted for its resemblance to Noah Kahan’s ‘Stick Season’. Following contact from Kahan’s representatives, Kahan was added to the songwriting credits for ‘Boston’.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Lefty stated she was not thinking of Kahan while writing the song and expressed a desire not to ‘step on anybody’s toes’. Some social media users have also speculated whether the use of AI might contribute to the perceived similarities between her tracks and existing songs.
