Stellantis and Roshel sign MOU for potential Brampton plant sale
Stellantis has signed a memorandum of understanding with Canadian armored vehicle manufacturer Roshel regarding the potential sale of its inactive Brampton Assembly plant in Ontario. The agreement establishes a framework for negotiations to transform the facility into a defense manufacturing center.
The plant has been idle since 2023 following the end of production for several vehicle models. While Stellantis had previously planned to retool the site for Jeep Compass production, that project was paused in 2025, and production for that model was ultimately moved to the United States. This shift resulted in the layoff of more than 2,000 workers.
If the transaction closes, Roshel intends to establish a production hub for the defense sector, which could potentially restore over 2,000 local jobs. Roshel has indicated that laid-off Stellantis employees would receive priority consideration for new positions. The proposal comes amid ongoing labor negotiations with the union Unifor.
