Stellantis halts production in France and Italy
Stellantis is implementing temporary production halts at several manufacturing plants in France and Italy due to supply chain issues and shifting market demand.
In France, the Sochaux plant will pause production from October 23 to 30, and the Rennes plant will halt operations from October 22 to 30. Both closures are attributed to insufficient supplies of long-range batteries, affecting models such as the Peugeot 3008, Peugeot 5008, and Citroën C5 Aircross. These batteries are supplied by Automotive Cells Company (ACC), a joint venture between Stellantis, Mercedes-Benz, and TotalEnergies. Additionally, the Mulhouse plant will suspend production from October 15 to 30; however, the company stated this specific pause is intended to align production with market demand rather than battery shortages.
In Italy, the Mirafiori plant in Turin is scheduled for a two-week break at the end of October. While previous pauses at this facility were linked to engine component shortages, recent challenges also involve fluctuating demand for the Fiat 500. The company noted that these adjustments are one-time measures to avoid accumulating excess inventory that does not meet current customer needs, particularly regarding high demand for long-range electric vehicles among fleet buyers.
