Stellantis manages labor negotiations and plant uncertainty in Canada and France
Stellantis is facing labor tensions and uncertainty across its international manufacturing operations in Canada and France.
In Canada, the company has entered negotiations with the Unifor union regarding the Brampton plant. While Stellantis leadership, including Trevor Longley, has expressed a commitment to negotiating in good faith and maintaining competitiveness, the facility currently lacks production. Approximately 2,200 workers are awaiting a return to work as the company considers various options for the site.
In France, approximately 1,000 employees at the Rennes-La Janais plant are seeking guarantees regarding a proposed joint venture with Dongfeng. While the union CFE-CGC has received written commitments regarding governance and the site's longevity, workers remain concerned about their employment status. They are demanding that their contracts remain with Stellantis rather than being transferred to the new joint venture, which is intended to produce Chinese new-energy vehicles.
