Stellantis Mangualde plant reaches 2 million vehicle production milestone

The Stellantis manufacturing plant in Mangualde, Portugal, has reached a historic milestone by producing its 2 millionth vehicle. The landmark vehicle is a grey, 100% electric Citroën ë-Berlingo Van, a special 30-year Berlingo edition destined for a customer in the Leiria region.

Founded in 1962 as Citroën Lusitânia, the facility began production in 1964 with the Citroën 2CV and famously manufactured the world's last 2CV in 1990. Today, the plant produces light commercial and passenger vehicles with both combustion and electric engines for four Stellantis brands: Peugeot, Citroën, Opel, and Fiat.

Currently employing 900 direct workers and generating over 1,000 indirect jobs, the plant produces approximately 372 vehicles per day across three shifts. The vast majority of its output, roughly 95%, is intended for export. In 2025, the facility set a production record of 91,670 vehicles, accounting for 27% of all vehicles produced in Portugal.
