Stellantis Mirafiori plant faces labor shifts and circular economy developments

The Stellantis plant in Mirafiori, Turin, is experiencing mixed developments regarding production and sustainability. Labor concerns have emerged as planned two-week holidays for body shop workers have been extended to four weeks, with reduced working rhythms expected until August 24. This shift has drawn skepticism from unions regarding previous promises of a plant revival, despite the recent introduction of hybrid 500 production and the hiring of 400 temporary workers.

Simultaneously, the facility is hosting the SUSTAINera circular economy center. This center focuses on the regeneration, reuse, and recycling of automotive components. Local repair professionals from Vicenza recently visited the site to observe processes such as the decontamination of end-of-life vehicles and the recovery of parts like batteries and fluids. The goal of the center is to extend the useful life of components and reduce the demand for new raw materials through the production of regenerated spare parts.
