Stellantis patents system to detect adulterated fuel

Stellantis has filed a patent with the Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) for a technology designed to identify adulterated fuel. The system works by monitoring electronic injection data to detect changes in engine performance parameters that suggest poor fuel quality.

If an irregularity is detected, the system will cross-reference engine data with the vehicle's GPS coordinates to pinpoint the specific gas station where the refueling occurred. The technology aims to provide two main functions: issuing alerts on the vehicle's dashboard to warn the driver and remotely transmitting technical reports and location data to the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) to assist in regulatory inspections.

The feature could potentially be applied to various brands under the Stellantis group, including Fiat, Jeep, Ram, Peugeot, and Citroën. However, the company has not yet disclosed which specific models will receive the technology or when it will enter production, as the patent is still undergoing analysis by the INPI.
