Stellantis plans new Fiat 500 electric battery production at Mirafiori for 2027

Stellantis announced that its Mirafiori plant in Turin will develop and manufacture new batteries for the Fiat 500 electric model starting in 2027, with the aim of making the car more competitive. The company also outlined a roadmap for a completely new generation of the 500, expected from 2030, offering additional variants.

The plan was presented by Emanuele Cappellano, Stellantis’ European activities head, at a national automotive industry summit organized by Italy’s Ministry of Enterprises and Made‑in‑Italy. The upgrade will involve roughly 400 new hires at Mirafiori and a reduction of social safety‑net usage by more than 70%, reflecting the plant’s expanding role in battery, hybrid transmission and circular‑economy activities.

The Italian government, represented by Minister Adolfo Urso, emphasised the need for supportive EU policies to safeguard the domestic auto supply chain during the green transition.
