Stellantis recalls nearly 1 million vehicles over backup camera software glitch

Stellantis has announced a massive global recall affecting nearly 1 million vehicles due to a software defect in the backup camera system. The glitch can prevent the camera image from displaying correctly on the vehicle's media screen when the driver shifts into reverse, potentially increasing the risk of low-speed collisions.

The recall primarily impacts brands including Jeep, Ram, Dodge, and Chrysler. In the United States alone, approximately 848,511 vehicles are affected, with additional thousands in Canada and Mexico. The scope of the recall includes various models manufactured between 2020 and 2027.

To resolve the issue, Stellantis intends to provide a software update. In many cases, this can be performed via an over-the-air wireless update, though some owners may need to visit a dealership. No accidents or injuries have been reported in connection with this technical failure.
