Stellantis recalls six Opel models in Algeria over Takata airbag risk

Stellantis El Djazair has issued an urgent safety recall for six Opel models in Algeria, instructing owners to stop driving the affected vehicles immediately. The recall concerns Takata airbags that may pose a significant safety risk.

The affected models include the Astra H, Astra J, Cascada, Meriva B, Mokka, and Zafira C, produced between 2008 and 2017. Stellantis warned that the chemical components in these airbags can degrade over time, particularly in hot and humid climates. If deployed during an accident, the inflator could rupture with excessive force, potentially causing serious or fatal injuries.

Owners can check if their vehicle is affected via an official website or by contacting a dedicated service number to schedule a free replacement at an authorized repairer. This follows previous safety recalls by the group in the region, including a 2024 notice regarding certain Citroën and DS models.
