Stellantis rolls out new Chrysler crossovers as automakers trim model lineups

Stellantis announced at its 2026 Investor Day that the Chrysler brand will add three new crossover models – the midsize Airflow and the sub‑compact Arrow and Arrow Cross – expanding its U.S. lineup to four vehicles by 2030. The new models will be built on shared European platforms derived from the Fiat Grizzly and Grizzly Fastback, aiming to revive Chrysler beyond its current minivan focus.

At the same time, legacy automakers are undertaking a broad "decluttering" effort to cut costs and simplify production. Volkswagen plans to cut its global model range by up to 50% and reduce variant complexity by as much as 75% by 2030, with CFO Arno Antlitz stating, "We have to tackle the complexity." Toyota’s new CEO Kenta Kon echoed similar concerns, linking the proliferation of specifications and variants to rising expenses. Industry leaders cite intensified competition from low‑cost Chinese manufacturers and mounting EV‑related losses as drivers of this shift.

The combined strategies reflect a push within the auto sector to streamline offerings while still expanding key brands like Chrysler to capture market share.
