Stellantis' Serbian plant faces rising Chinese EV competition

Chinese electric‑vehicle manufacturers are rapidly expanding their presence in Europe, offering lower‑priced models and investing in local production facilities. Their growing market share is putting pressure on established automakers, including Stellantis.

Stellantis' Kragujevac factory in Serbia, which will produce the new electric Fiat Grande Panda, currently enjoys a strong order book and is expected to operate at full capacity by year‑end. Analysts note that the plant's modernised facilities and experienced workforce give it advantages, but the company must contend with aggressive Chinese pricing, advanced battery technology and EU tariff measures that aim to level the playing field.

The competition highlights broader challenges for the European auto industry as it transitions to electric mobility, with Chinese firms becoming a significant rival for market share and profitability.
