Stellantis shares fall following Morgan Stanley downgrade
Stellantis shares have faced significant downward pressure following a downgrade by Morgan Stanley, which shifted its rating from ‘Equalweight’ to ‘Underweight’ and lowered the price target to 4.50 euros. The automaker's stock has seen a decline of approximately 53 percent since the beginning of the year.
Analysts cited concerns regarding profitability, margin development, and a slow recovery in the United States market amid increased competitive pressure. This sentiment follows similar cautious stances from other institutions, such as UBS.
The company is also navigating several operational challenges. These include a recall of over 200,000 Jeep vehicles due to a software error in the tire pressure monitoring system, production halts at the Mirafiori plant in Turin due to component shortages, and ongoing labor negotiations with Unifor in Canada. Management is currently working to address these issues while managing divergent market strategies between the US and other global regions.
