Stellantis tests hybrid diesel engines for large commercial vehicles
Stellantis has confirmed the testing of a new hybrid diesel powertrain intended for its next generation of large commercial vans. According to information from an Italian automotive union, the new units are expected to have a displacement of two liters or greater.
Gianluca Ficco, the national secretary of the union, identified the Pratola Serra plant as the future production site for these engines. The units are slated to be integrated into vehicles manufactured at the Atessa plant, which produces large vans. While a specific market launch date has not been announced, a Stellantis spokesperson confirmed the powertrain is currently undergoing testing.
The new hybrid diesel technology is aimed at reducing emissions for vehicles used in construction, deliveries, and long-distance transport. The upcoming models may include the Fiat Ducato and its technical counterparts, such as the Citroën Jumper, Peugeot Boxer, and Opel Movano.
