Stellantis tests new hybrid batteries and reviews 2025 sales

Stellantis is advancing its mild hybrid (MHEV) technology through new prototype testing. Spy images of Peugeot 208 and 308 models reveal tests for an upgraded battery system. The new architecture aims to increase battery capacity to approximately 0.9 kWh, up from the current 0.89 kWh gross capacity, to allow for more frequent electrical intervention and reduced reliance on internal combustion engines. This 48-volt technology is expected to be rolled out across various brands within the group, including Citroën, Opel, DS Automobiles, Alfa Romeo, and Fiat.

In terms of global market performance for 2025, Ram pickup trucks (1500, 2500, and 3500 series) lead Stellantis sales with approximately 437,500 units, despite a 4% year-over-year decline. The Peugeot 208 ranks second with 252,000 units sold, while the Peugeot 2008 follows in third with 238,000 units, marking a 12% increase. Other notable performers include the Jeep Grand Cherokee (226,000 units), Citroën C3 (219,000 units), and Jeep Compass (212,000 units).
