Stellantis sells Free2move car‑sharing unit to Mutares

Stellantis has agreed to sell its Free2move car‑sharing business to the German private‑equity group Mutares. The transaction, whose financial terms were not disclosed, is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approval and worker consultations. The sale is part of StellantisFaSTLane 2030 plan to concentrate on core automotive activities, with mobility services such as Free2move being divested while the group retains its Leasys mobility subsidiary.

Free2move operates a free‑floating car‑sharing platform in 14 cities across Europe and the United States. Both companies say the carve‑out will give Free2move greater operational flexibility, dedicated investment and will accelerate its transition to an all‑electric fleet. Virgilio Cerutti, Stellantis head of Business Development & Partnerships, said the move will “strengthen our long‑term value‑creation capability,” while Mutares chief investment officer Johannes Laumann highlighted Free2move’s strong international brand and the potential for operational improvement after the separation.
