Stellantis to produce new Jeep Cherokee on STLA One platform
Stellantis has announced that the next-generation Jeep Cherokee will be the first U.S. vehicle to utilize the company’s new STLA One modular architecture. Production is slated to begin at the Belvidere Assembly Plant in Illinois, with pilot production scheduled for the first half of 2028 and a retail launch planned for the second half of 2029.
The STLA One platform is designed to underpin more than 30 different models by 2035 across various powertrain variants, aiming to improve cost discipline and product breadth. This move is part of Stellantis’ FaSTLAne 2030 strategy, which seeks to achieve 90% North American market coverage by the end of the decade.
To support this transition, Stellantis has increased its investment in the Belvidere facility to over $800 million. The company also committed to maintaining supplemental unemployment benefits and healthcare for employees currently on layoff at the plant. This initiative is part of a broader $13 billion U.S. investment plan involving 23 new or refreshed North American vehicle models by 2030.
