Stellantis to suspend production at several French plants in October

Stellantis has announced temporary production suspensions at several of its French manufacturing plants during October 2026. The interruptions, which will last between five and fifteen days, are primarily driven by a shortage of long-range batteries required for electric vehicle models.

Key plant schedules include: - Sochaux: October 23 to 30 (producing Peugeot 3008 and 5008). - Rennes: October 22 to 30 (affecting Citroën C5 Aircross). - Mulhouse: October 15 to 30 (due to different industrial reasons related to declining demand for specific models). - Poissy: October 19 to 23 (to align production with market demand and inventory management).

The battery shortage is linked to Automotive Cells Company (ACC), a joint venture between Stellantis, Mercedes-Benz, and TotalEnergies, which is struggling to scale up production of high-capacity cells to meet strong demand, particularly from professional fleet customers.

In Mulhouse, Stellantis plans to invest 400 million euros as part of a larger 1 billion euro investment package for France, with the goal of assembling three new compact models starting in 2029. Labor unions, such as the CGT, have criticized the use of technical unemployment, advocating instead for reduced production speeds to maintain employment levels.
