Stellantis worker wins disability ruling against Social Security

The High Court of Justice of Galicia (TSXG) has ruled in favor of a 55-year-old operator at the Stellantis factory in Vigo, granting her permanent total disability for her profession.

The worker had been denied benefits by the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), which argued her physical ailments were not significant enough to prevent work. However, the court determined that her physical limitations, including shoulder and cervical pain, combined with a high-pressure assembly line rhythm of one car per minute, made her duties impossible to perform.

In addition to physical pain and numbness in her fingers, the court noted the worker suffered from severe anxiety and sub-depressive mood resulting from the physical demands of her job. The ruling orders the INSS to pay her a monthly pension based on a regulatory base of 2,219 euros.
