Stellar Development Foundation unveils Project Thruput

The Stellar Development Foundation has introduced Project Thruput, a new execution model designed to improve blockchain scalability by addressing transaction contention. Unlike traditional blockchain networks that require a strict global order for all transactions, this model allows for execution without a strict global order, even when transactions compete for the same data.

Benchmark tests conducted on the FutureNet test network demonstrated that the system can scale capacity linearly by adding hardware. In controlled tests, execution capacity increased from 1.18 million payments per second on a single machine to approximately 7.02 million payments per second using eight machines.

The foundation noted that these figures represent component-level measurements of the execution engine and do not reflect end-to-end public network throughput, which involves other factors such as consensus, networking, and storage.
